Elting Memorial Library is an Association Library established in 1909, located in the heart of the Village of New Paltz, New York. It serves the Town and Village of New Paltz (combined population of 15,000) and is a member of the Mid-Hudson Library System. Our mission is to promote literacy, build community, and inspire lifelong learning. The Library’s extensive collections, unique historical holdings, cultural programs, services, and events, provided in a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere, shall be an accessible resource for all.

Founded in 1678 by Huguenots on land originally home to the Lenape people, New Paltz is an exurb of New York City situated between the Hudson River and the Shawangunk Mountains, a world-renowned hiking, biking, and climbing destination. Elting Memorial Library is located in the center of downtown New Paltz, within walking distance of the State University of New York at New Paltz.

The Elting Memorial Library, in New Paltz, NY, is seeking an energetic and creative person, to fill a full-time Children's Librarian/Youth position. 

Under the guidance of the Library Director, this person selects library materials and maintains the collection, is responsible for creating and implementing most children's programs, assists library patrons, answers routine reference, computer and internet queries, and provides circulation services as needed. This person may also assist the Youth coordinator in planning and carrying out some teen-level activities. Computer proficiency is required and ability in clerical functions. Some evening and weekend hours are required in addition to daytime duty. Competitive salary to be determined.

MLS or MSIS from an ALA-accredited institution
New York State Public Librarian Certification required at time of hire
Experience with programming and collection development.
Demonstrated experience with public library operations preferred
A thorough knowledge of current trends, technologies, and best practices in public libraries
Commitment to professional development as demonstrated by participating in continuing education opportunities
