Children's Room

Children's RoomOur children’s room provides services for toddlers to middle schoolers. In addition to providing books to borrow, we offer a variety of programs. Throughout the year, local volunteers share their expertise in a wide range of topics. Periodically the library also participates in readathons.

Current Programs Include:

  • Special Programs
  • Family Movie Night
  • A summer reading club for preschoolers through sixth grade.
  • Penpal Program
  • Annual Bookmark Contest, check out some past winning entries.
  • Story time for babies & toddlers Wednesdays 10:30 am, and for children ages 3 and up Tuesdays 1:30 am.
  • New York State Summer Reading Program – Theme varies each summer.

Our goal is to make the children’s room a happy, inviting place for all children. This is more than just a place to check out books. It is a place to make friends, participate in fun and educational activities, and to feel connected with the New Paltz community. We hope their experiences at the Elting Library will encourage children to pursue reading throughout their lives. A child must be in kindergarten to obtain a library card.

The Elting Library makes every effort to carry books that have won the Newberry and Caldecott Awards. Please stop by the children’s room to check out the selection. Those Newberry and Caldecott books that we do not have can be ordered through interlibrary loan.
