Noé Dinnerstein is an ethnomusicologist with a background in the musics of India, Tibet, Ladakh, and Ireland. He has been a professional sitar player for the past 40 years, as well as being proficient in voice, flute, guitar, and other assorted
ethnic instruments. He is currently Adjunct Assistant Professor of music at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, CUNY. He is a disciple of the late sitar virtuoso Pandit Uma Shankar Mishra, and was also a long-time voice student of the late Pandit Pran Nath.
Roshni Samlal is a New York–based tabla player originating from Trinidad in the West Indies. She was initiated into Indian classical music at the age of 5, studying both vocal performance and tabla with theorist and composer Professor H.S. Adesh. Since 1998 she has continued her tutelage in the Benares style of tabla playing under Shri Tapan Modak, subsequently becoming a student of the great exponent of the Farukhbad style, Pt. Anindo Chatterjee. While her passion is Indian classical tabla, Roshni has performed in many collaborative settings in creating scores for films and playing for kirtan singers such as Snatam Kaur and Nina Rao. Roshni has had the opportunity to accompany maestros in the Hindustani classical world, such as Pt. Subrata Roy Chaudhuri, Steve Gorn. She is an actively performing member of the innovative collective, the Brooklyn Raga Massive and teaches in the NY area.

From 4 -6 p.m., we invite both new and experienced writers to join us for a private workshop before the reading. Participating contributors will meet with you in small groups to talk about finding your voice, telling your story, and writing about difficult material. At 7 p.m., six contributors to the new anthology Into Sanity : Essays about Mental Health, Mental Illness, and Living in Between will read excerpts. A book signing will follow.

This story time is part of the annual New Paltz Eve celebrations that will take place at different venues all over New Paltz on Jan. 31. The story time is for children from 3 to 5 years of age. There will be stories, songs, games and and a wearable craft.
