105th Anniversary Celebrations

October Celebrations

In October of 1920, the Elting Memorial Library opened its doors to the community at its new location at 93 Main Street.

This coming October, the library will have on display artifacts and information about the library’s history in the Steinberg Room.  Also, the community is invited to take part in a celebration of the library’s anniversary on October 9 at 4 PM. That evening, there will be a program titled “The History of 93 Main,” at 7 PM given by the library’s own History Collection Coordinator, Carol Johnson.

Anniversary Quilt

Elting Memorial Library is embarking on a community quilt project for the remainder of this year.  The theme will be, “Piecing Together: Library Stories From Our Community.”  This year, 2025, marks the 105th anniversary of the library's location at 93 Main Street. Planned celebrations to commemorate the 100th anniversary were interrupted by the pandemic, so the library community was not able to celebrate this milestone together.

To commemorate this anniversary, the library is asking community members to create their own quilt squares to donate to the project. Quilt squares from all ages will be collected from Sept 1 to Oct 30 at the circulation desk. Providing there is enough response, the quilt squares will be made into two or three quilts according to age group/style.  This depends on your help!  Please reach out if you have any questions to director@eltinglibrary.org.

Quilt Square Requirements

All entrants are asked to use the base square provided by the library for consistency in measurements and fabric quality.  When designing a quilt square, keep in mind the theme: “Library Stories From Our Community.”  Applique or embroidery, felt, and fabrics may be used.  Fabric markers are also a good choice, especially for younger designers.  Be sure to leave a 1” border around the quilt square for piecing together.  However, the library asks that entrants not use 3D embellishments such as beads and buttons because they will not store well, and the intention is for the quilt to last another 105 years.  There is a short form to submit with your quilt square so the library can keep track of all participants.

Come work on your square at the library!
